During our stay in Zürich, shooting the mini-docu about the Jeans Museum, we had some spare time and used this to visit our newest retailer:

IOVINO Cloth & Indigo

They are situated in a small town 30 minutes north from Zürich called Winterthur. Felice Iovino, a business veteran, and his small team run the shop from the same principles BDD stands for, or as how they explain it: "IOVINO Cloth & Indigo, that’s choice clothing for ladies and gentlemen, who value quality, craft, sustainability and passion as much as we do. You’ll find small but excellent labels – primarily European and from the US – that live the same values. Come see for yourself."

We are happy to have IOVINO Cloth & Indigo as our first retailer in Switzerland and welcome them to the BENZAK family!

Thanks to your votes we managed to secure the 3rd spot in the Artisan Challenge.. which means we have won a booth at Denim Boulevard Milan next June!

For the 5th edition they moved to “Torneria” – a location situated in via Tortona, 32 – in the beating heart of the Milan fashion district. As usual Denim Boulevard will take place during Milan Fahion Week, from the 17th to the 19th of June 2017.

10-05-2017 WE NEED YOUR VOTE!

From May 2015 till May 2017 we have competed in the Artisan Challenge, as part of the Denim World Championships. We submitted an early version of the BDD-006 heavy slub 16 oz. RHT, which has now become one of our most popular styles. Above you can see the result after 13 months of actual wear and 2 washes!

Now it is time to vote and we need your help! If you think our submission should win the contest, please click on the link below and vote for Benzak Denim Developers to crown us champion of the Artisan Challenge!

Many thanks!

06-05-2017 The history behind our baseball caps: 'This is about much more than baseball'

Earlier this year we released the 4th version of our baseball cap, this time in the colour green. We produce these caps in collaboration with Ebbets Field Flannels. They are a Seattle-based company specialized in reproducing vintage sports jerseys and caps.

Our very first cap, back in 2013, was based on one of their famous reproductions: the New York Black Yankees 1936 ballcap (pictured above). We simply swapped the letters 'NY' for 'BDD'. This became the basis for all of our cap releases ever since.

But this particular cap has quite some history behind it. The New York Black Yankees was a team only allowed to play in the 'Negro League', consisting of only African-American players. One of our favorite podcasts, Stuff You Should Know, talked about this shameful subject.

If you are interested in how this phenomenon worked and want to get a better understanding of the history behind a seemingly, but not-so, innocent cap, check out the podcast below. Trust us, it's really worth your time. Or as they put it: 'If you don't like sports, listen to this one anyway, because this is about much more than baseball'.
